Forgot Compaq BIOS password?

The hard drive failed, so I put a new one in it but i need to get into the bios to allow it to use the new drive. But there is a password that I don’t know. I can’t get rid of it, and disconnecting the CMOS battery does not clear it. Is there a way to crack or clear the password? I can’t even run windows until I can get into the bios.

What’s a BIOS password?

BIOS, short for Basic Input/Output System, is the the first program that is run when your computer starts. It initializes and test the system hardware components, and to load an operating system or other programs from a mass memory device. You can set a BIOS password to restrict access to your computer.

How to reset BIOS password?

Regarding how to reset BIOS password, my suggestion is to contact the computer manufacturer (Compaq) or the BIOS manufacturer if you are not good at computer.  Or else you can take your computer to a computer repair shop to ask an IT professional to help you fix it.

If you plan to reset a forgotten BIOS password by yourself, you can try to remove the CMOS battery to clear all CMOS settings, including the BIOS password. Manufacturer backdoor password is another option worth your try. If this doesn’t work, you can try additional software.

The freeware! BIOS is highly suggested. Professionally designed to be a whole BIOS and security suite, !BIOS can decrypt the passwords used in some of the most common BIOS makes such as Award, Phoenix, American Megatrends, IMB etc. Though this tool is free, think twice before using it as it can result in some unexpected and unwanted results.
